The ban on the use of fire in wrestling matches was ended after 71 days, so Shadow WX used it on WifeBeater and Mitsuhiro Matsunaga had a fire death match with Jun Kasai where Matsunaga used a flaming baseball bat. |

Abdullah Jr. Kobayashi will challenge Tomoaki Honma for the Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu Senshuken on 2/22 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall, which is the same show that will have the Ryuji Yamakawa vs. Kintaro Kanemura hard core title match. As a publicity stunt to lead to his challenge, Kobayashi's "special training" was cutting beer bottles with a hand sword. |

12/14: Yamakawa vs. Honma Rematch Set
Big Japan announced
the main matches on thier Shinshun Great Series (they always steal the
names of All Japan tours, just changing one word). The highlight will
undoubtly be a rematch of the best death match on 1999, Ryuji Yamakawa
vs. Tomoaki Honma. This will take place on 1/2 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall
and once again be for Yamakawa's Dai Nihon Nintei Death Match Heavykyu
Senshuken (Big Japan recognized death match heavyweight title). The
winner will also advance to the semifinal of the 1st Big Japan Grand
Prix. Their match on 6/20/99 was just insane with all kinds of killer
pro wrestling moves made more deadly because of the danger of doing
them onto the various gimmicks. Honma can really work but knows what
it takes to be a top guy in a death match, while Yamakawa is an adequate
worker who has no qualms about putting his body on the line. Both men
would probably be wrestling in the junior division if they were in a
different league, but have been able to get over their lack of size
through willingness to take incredible risks and ungodly punishment.
Last time they were able to do a junior style match with a bunch of
sick gimmick spots as opposed to the crappy US hardcore matches that
are just two guys hitting each other over the head with weapons for
5 or 10 minutes while the announcers make fun of them or talk about
something else. Yamakawa just won the title back from Shadow WX in the
main event of their major Kanagawa Yokohama Bunka Taiikukan show on
12/4. However, Honma actually defeated the legendary no talent sloth
Abdullah The Butcher on the same show, and Abdullah pretty much never
does a job, so it might be a good idea to give the title to Honma coming
off the biggest win of his career. |
